Insulin Resistence Question

I have recently been diagnosied with insulin resistence/glucose impaired. I am trying to stay off meds and lose some weight, exercise and stay on a structured diet (not easy when you teach cooking for a living)
I am supposed to test twice per day, but find myself so nervous from all of this that whenever I feel the slightest bit off, I test. Yesterday my numbers went AWOL. They usually only run slightly high in the AM when I first wake up (120-129) and then as soon as I eat some protein, an hour later they go into the 98-116 range, which my Dr.said is fine.

Yesterday I was out in the sun, having eaten a high carb meal an hour before and when I tested, my number said 202.I panicked, ate an ounce of cheese and tested 20 minutes later on the way to the eye doctor and the number dropped to 150. When I got home I tested again (it was 1 1/2 hours later) and it said 69. I ate some more protein, tested again in 1/2 hour and it was 85. I ate a regular dinner (grilled chicken, vegetables and a little barley) and 2 hours later I tested at 117.

I will call the doctor, but will track carefully today and see what happens. Any advice is greatly appreciated, being new at this and slightly panicked.

Re: Insulin Resistence Question

I'm not surprised that you had a 202 reading after a high carb meal. I once had a 226 after eating at an Italian restaurant. I know not to eat that type of meal again. What did you eat? Keep track of foods that raise your blood sugar. Your glucose level did come down to normal in a reasonable time, so I wouldn't be upset. Just take it as a lesson.

Re: Insulin Resistence Question

Thank you so much, you made me feel much better. I did eat a high carb meal, too much bread, not enough protein. Scared me , but a good wake up call!!
