Insulin/Needle allergy? - Diabetes Message Board

I've been insulin dependent for about 3 months. I don't like injecting myself, but I've just started injecting in my legs after being advised not to inject in my arms all the time. Trouble is, my legs are now a mess. The area I've been injecting, as well as bruised, has come up in itchy lumps, like insect bites, where the needle has been. As I can't help scratching them, the whole area has come up in a rash, that is spreading all over my legs, genitals, abdomen etc. I can't understand why my arms are ok, but my legs react like this. Am I allergic to the insulin?

Hi Chris, I'd advise you not to inject in your legs. Use your waistline love handles. You have less nerves and smaller blood vessels. As for the reaction you have, if it appears on your waist, it's likely you have become sensitized (allergic) to your insulin. Change your brand, and if this doesn't help, go to your doc. and he will likely put you on bovine insulin. Lots of God's blessings to you...Oldguy
