Drinking alot of Diet pop lately - Diabetes Message Board

I have been home for between semester-break and I haven't been working so I have just been relaxing and with that relaxing, I have been drinking alot of Diet Dr. Pepper/Fresca and other diet sodas. My question is, is too much diet pop bad for Type 1 diabetes?

My sugar lvls haven't been so hot either, ranging times from 200-300. But I have been kind of ill over the break. Coughing, sneezing etc. I'm still getting over it also. The thing is, lately I've been needing more insulin dosage with each meal then I needed in previous months. It didn't turn like this until probably September or so, and I was diagnosed in March. My A1C was ~6 my doctor said and my cholestoral/BP lvls have been fine also. Could the problem be that my body was producing SOME insulin before, but now has lost that little production due to a recent illness?

I'm sorry, I'm new and just have a billion questions to ask.

My 14 year old's got Type 1. She drinks at least three Diet Sprites a day. They don't seem to have any effect on her.

My daughter's numbers go high, too, when she's not feeling well. Maybe that's the problem the problem with you.

You COULD be coming out of your honeymoon phase, which means that your pancreas has stopped producing any reserve insulin you might have had.

In additon, you say that you've been lounging and lounging. Nothing wrong with that... that's what you're supposed to do over semester break. HOWEVER, exercise lowers blood sugar, so if your exercise level is lower, your insulin needs might be higher.

Have you reviewed your numbers with your endo? He or she will probably have some suggestions for you.
