It does indeed sound like neuropathy. A few things you might want to try:
1. Capsaicn cream...you can get this OTC at most drugstores. It's made from the ingredient (capsaicn) that makes hot chili peppers hot, but it works paradoxically to diminish the pain senstations of neuropathy. Try it on a small area first, as some people have a bad reaction (if you do, just wash it off immediately).
2. Neurontin...I've heard some people say this medication gives them relief, although it never worked for me. It's by prescription on;y.
3. Vicodin...another prescription drug, this is a painkiller. I find it very effective.
You didn't say how well controlled your blood glucose is, but certainly high blood glucose will contribute to neuropathy. For some people who have had bad control in the past, bringing their bg under better control may reduce (although probably not eliminate) the symptoms of neuropathy. At the very least, it will prevent them from getting worse.
