My 10 yr old daughter was diagnosed less than a month ago. I'm new so this may be nothing but she was complaining for a day that her leg hurts below the knee when she walks or puts pressure on it. Is this common and if so what is the treatment. Any help is greatly appreciated.
at this age there can be several things to considder. If she walks diferently, or more some some days than others, she might be experiencing schin(sp) splints. She could have soreness from exercise or just walking. In any case have a doctor check her out. make sure you give the doctor every bit of history of all activity and changes in habits she has done. If it were to be Neuropathy, the better way to confirm that is with a special nerve induction test. It checks for both numbness and accute pain responces.
Please check with the doctor. It most likely has to do with her activity, No way of knowing without a checkup
I hope for the best . I was diagnosed at age 8
It might also be "Growing pains" I'm not sure if they still call it that today, but when I got those leg pains, before and during adolesence, that's what they told me! It was never blamed on my diabetes (I got that at age 12), but on mysterous "growing pains". Funny thing is, I never grew much at all, even with the leg pains... go figure, eh?
