Numbness and pins and needles in hands - Diabetes Message Board

Hello everyone.
Has anyone had trouble with their hands getting numb? It's like the circulation has been cut off. It doesn't happen all of the time, but seems to happen more often if I sleep or sit with my hands in a certain position. Also, seens like holding anything in the same position for any length of time does it, like when holding the telephone to your ear.
I've told my doctor about, but he doesn't seem to think it's anything to be concerned about. He said my heart is ok. Just woundering.
Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

PS.....no numbness in my feet (yet).

I have the same problem sometimes. I can sit with my arm propped up on the edge of a chair and I will start to loose feeling in it pretty quickly. My legs do the same thing. I guess it may have something to do with me being insulin resistant but I am not sure. I will have to ask my doctor the next time I go in to see him.

I have the problems with my hands and arms going knum along with my legs perhaps have you been tested for neuropathy, I have that it it does cause those symptoms

I believe that Delrae has hit it on the nose. I get this as well. I can loose all sensation by picking up and using a fork or a pen. I can sleep and wake up with my hand completely numb.

It is nerve related in me. My leg will disappear

completely on occasion. It is as though it doesn't exist. I can not walk until it regains sensitivity. This is a normal diabetic problem. And it can show up at any time and on most any limb of your body. It is not fun to have but it is frustrating sometimes especially when I have a need to write something with a pen. I am usually OK when I type, At least for now. Hope this is useful.

Thanks everyone for your quick responses. I'm not glad that that any of us have this problem, but I am glad to know that I'm not alone.

I too have the fork and pen problem. Also, I don't know if any of you guys are on Glucophage XR, but I just read an article that certain lot numbers have been recalled due to a sub-potency problem. Just thought I'd pass that along in case any of you guys are taking it, or know of someone that is.
