Glucophage question - Diabetes Message Board

I am insulin resistance, but my sugar level is fine.
I have been on glucophage for 2 months. When I was first put on the medicine, my insulin level was at 54 ( I was told normal was 17?) Anyway, two months later, I've had it rechecked. It's down to 25. I was taking one glucophage a day. Now, even though it's down a lot, she wants me to take two a day and come back in two months and see if my insulin level has leveled out. Does that make sense to anyone? I asked why I can't just keep taking the one if it's made a difference so far..she said it'll make it come down quicker. Does this sound right?

yes, sounds right but you can easily check your own glucose level and should do so every few days

Annie,

Your doctor is being very proactive in treating your condition. There is good evidence that metformin (Glucophage) can reduce the incidence of diabetes by 33% or so. However, diet and exercise can reduce the risk by 66%. Be sure to use diet (lose weight if that is an issue) and exercise to the full extent.
