Confused and had enough!!!!!!!

Hey i'm Hannah,
I've had diabetes type 1 for ten years I know that ain't a massive amount of time, seens as you get it for life but i'm tired of it! Theres no way to get a rest from it, my sugars are all over the place! Yesterday my sugar was 19.6 at breakfast and then dropped to 1.6 at 3pm! I can go majorly low before I pass out so much so I managed to get the bus home yesterday at 1.6 without a problem! I just got hot and a little tired! I've got a long term test coming up in a month and I just know it won't be good! If any one can suggest a way to get back controle please I'll try anything!!!!

Re: Confused and had enough!!!!!!!

I'm a type 2, and from what I've read there are very serious differences in the two types and how you deal with them. I've been diagnosed with for 3 & 1/2 years, and I'm still learning all the time.

From what I've read, it can be harder for type 1s to control their blood sugar, but from all that I've read, I'm sure that it is possible. You really need to have a doctor and health professionals that support you, and if the ones you have now aren't helping you the way they should, you need to find new ones.

You need to learn as much as you can about diabetes and be prepared to discuss it agressively with your doctor the next the time you see him or her. For example, are your medicines doing the job. Doctors are good people, but you or I are just one of many patients that he or she has. It's up to you to find out what you need to know and make sure you work with your doctor to get your blood sugar under control.

Diabetes isn't like cancer or many other diseases. Diabetes is a disease that can't be cured but can be controlled and whose control depends upon the behavior of the people who have it. Most people (including me) don't always do what they should. Who is perfect? But I try most of the time and make an effort not to beat myself up for occasional lapses. No one can do this for you. Learn what you need to know, work with your doctor, and diabetes can be tamed not cured but tamed.

Re: Confused and had enough!!!!!!!

Hannah,
You didn't give us much information to go on. What type of insulin are you using, and when do you take your shots? How frequently are you testing? Do you know how to count carbs? And, how do you correct if your blood sugar is too high?

Answers to those questions might give us enough information to help you figure out how to better manage your blood sugar levels. I know it can be very frustrating, but usually a bit of detective work will provide some clues as to what's going on. Do post back and let us know more.

Ruth

Re: Confused and had enough!!!!!!!

In addition to what kind of insulin & how often, how soon after injecting it are you eating and are you eating enough carbs to try and prevent from going hypoglycemic. Are you eating snacks? Are you going longer than 6 hours between eating meals/snacks?

Re: Confused and had enough!!!!!!!

Have you thought about going on the pump? I am a type 2 diabetic who does not produce insulin. I am also insulin resistant. So I am an insulin dependant type 2 diabetic.

For almost 3 years we tried to get my bg's under control. We FIANNLY are getting good steady numbers after I was put on the pump. It did take a few months to adjust to get the settings right. But now I am averageing 107-125 weekly readings. I went from 13.5 A1C at diagnosis and I am hopeing to be under 7.0 this time after years of trying.

The pump was a life saver for me.
