diabetes: unusual symptoms

I have type 2 diabetes. I have noticed that a substance (resembling white tissue paper) appears in the toilet bowl from my urine. Has anyone else had this and knows what it is? I also have really erratic blood sugar levels (24-15 in one day) Doctors have been very uninformative!

Re: diabetes: unusual symptoms

If it foams in the toilet, it is probably protein. When was the last time you had a 24 hour urine test with accompanying blood work? This is very important to get this done at least once per year.

If your sugars are ranging from 15 - 24 (I'm assuming mmol) then they actually aren't that erratic, they're consistantly high. What sort of meds are you on and how often do you test? Do you get regular exercise and what sort of foods do you eat? Sorry, for all the questions but we can probably give you a hand if you give us more details. Are you T1 or T2?

Good luck.

Re: diabetes: unusual symptoms

Thanks for the question and the response. This happens to me every so often and I had never linked it to my diabetes. I am scheduled for a complete physical in a couple of weeks along with my A1c being checked. Have not had urine checked in I believe almost 2 years. Will remind the Dr.

Re: diabetes: unusual symptoms

Nick,
It's quite possible that your kidneys are beginning to have problems and it's definite that your blood sugars are running way too high. Cora asked some very good questions, and I'd like to also encourage you to post back and give us some more info. Your blood sugar levels of 15-24 are equivalent to USA numbers of 270-432. Those numbers are extremely high, and need to be corrected asap.

Ruth
