I just had a three hour diabetes test done & the results came back as a 4.8 what does this mean. I have been dealing with this since I got pregnant in 1995 with my 3rd daughter. I was told to eat chocolate & I would be fine. I was of course my nurse at the time said I was hpyoglicemic. But the only test that was done are the ones you get when your pregnant. Those always came back fine. But when I'm with friends who are diabetic and I have my episode they will check my blood & then there off running trying to get me orange juice & stuff. What does my test result mean.:confused.
Must be an A1c...she's from the U.S.A. (Although she did say it was after a 3 hour test...hmmm, maybe I should rethink my answer???)
Cuchsgirl, if it was an A1c of 4.8, it means that your blood sugar over the past 8-12 weeks averaged around 93. I'm not sure what 4.8 as a result of a 3-hour test means (I'm assuming you had a glucose tolerance test?). Maybe they did an A1c at the time of the GTT and they were looking for a rebound low on the GTT to see if you are hypoglycemic? Usually, when they do a GTT, they test your blood sugar at various times after you drink the sugar solution. You would have a series of results, which would be blood sugar levels (either two or three digit numbers, no decimals). Oh, wait a minute...could that have been 48 rather than 4.8? If it was a 48, that means you are definitely hypoglycemic.
Can you post back with more specifics on that result? A1C, blood glucose level, if blood glucose level, how long after you drank the stuff? That info would be helpful in answering your question.
