My mom was diagnosed with Diabetes about 8 months ago. Her weight started off at 167 lbs when she was diagnosed she was 115 lbs now she continues and she is at 105 lbs. I am beginning to think she has something other than diabetes. Mom has one more month to go before she has medical coverage and I cannot wait!!!! Her blood sugar remains high over 200, taking I think 3 pills a day. Can Thyroid make you loose weight?
hello I lost weight with my type 2 diabetes but I also followed a calorie diet. I lost 57 lb total. I do know though that thyroid can make you lose weight I am not sure which one it is or to much about it but I was tested for it a few years back and from my understanding there is one that makes you gain weight and one that makes you lose. If its not a thyroid it may just be some of the medicines she is on. What all does she take? Sorry I wasn't much help but someone will be along soon to help you better
Not sure about the thyroid issues, but constant high blood sugars do cause weight loss. It is essential that your Mum tries to reduce her blood sugar levels to as near normal as possible. How is her diet? She needs to test regularly to find out how different foods affect her levels, everyone is different, but very low carb seems to work for a lot of people. If her diet is already good, she may need additional meds, or a change in them. Good Luck, Mandy.
I lost about 50lbs in the 15 months before I was diagnosed and since then I've lost another 10lbs or so. Trouble is that I don't want to loose weight because there is nothing left to lose! I'm about 500 more calories a day now so hopefully that will help.
My husband was 260 for years . When he was diagnosed 5 years ago his weight bounced from 240-260; he never lost weight.
My husband's glucose went from 300 to a low of 91 when he stopped ALL , I mean ALL sodas and donuts and started taking a supplement called Bitter Melon and Fenugreek daily. He Never exercises at all; just stopped the sugars and takes SOME Actos and Amaryl (which weren't working) and the 2 formulas above. He quickly dropped 30 lb and one pant size (working on a second drop in size). I am Amazed what stopping a soda habit can do for your weight. Wow. But Now I'm hearing that weightloss is Bad?? His weight and glucose are DOWN and that's a Bad sign? How depressing. And we were so happy about his weightloss, too.
I was a size 16 before i was diagnosed with type 2 iam am now as size 12 jeans and they are still falling down.But iam bigger on top than a 12 i think a 16 which i want to go iam going to yoga every week which helps me.
Iam really pleased i can get into a size 12 now hated being bigger.
I think my mom is taking Glyburide, 3 times a day. I don't think she is eating properly. I took her out shopping yesterday and she was walking so slow, sometimes she had to stop. When I took her home it was around 3 in the afternoon and she made a comment that she has eaten anything since 7 in the morning than she complains to me that her medication is not working. I guess mom doesn’t know what to eat anymore….. When she was in Shop rite she had pound cake in her hand and she kept starring at it and I said no you do not need it.
Do you all look at the ingredients and look at “sugar” and how much is too much in one ingredient or is everything sugar free. Just wondering! Thanks a bunch!
With us, we simple cut out all pastries. No donuts no cake no cookies.
It has not been a problem; the cravings go away. If he needs sugar in cereal he eats DIABETISWEET sugar substitute. No soda pop, he drinks sugar free powdered drinks in water. You are one great daughter.
I think the whole not eating sugar thing is kind of an outdated school of thought. You basically need to be looking at carbohydrate because that is the stuff that breaks down into sugar. If she hasn't seen a dietitian I would highly recommend it, that way you will get some good information and a personalized meal plan. As long as I work everything into my meal plan I don't go without anything. For instance a couple of dinners a week I'll work in a serving of ice cream or a cookie, something like that. Until you really know what amounts of carbohydrate and other things like protein and fat as well as how ofteit will be hard for you to help when shopping or preparing meals.
