How much cinnamon to take daily for lowering blood glucose?

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on June 1, 2007. I have been reading about the benefits of taking cinnamon to lower the bgr. I have since started taking 1000 mg of cinnamon as recommended by the maker of the capsules. Can cinnamon lower the bgr too low? How does the mg on the capsules translate to the powder form?

Re: How much cinnamon to take daily for lowering blood glucose?

I checked this out a while ago and I believe it takes 5 500mg capsules to equal 1/2 tsp, which is the recommended daily amount. I was taking cinnamon for a while but found that muscle building exercise was MUCH more effective. I doubt that it would lower your blood sugar too much since mine was never lowered more than about 10.

Re: How much cinnamon to take daily for lowering blood glucose?

Laura:
That's a whole bunch of capsules to take in a day!!! Appears if one is going to take cinnamon they could save money and time by just sprinkling it on food or mixing it in a drink. I haven't taken it long enough to know if I will benefit from this spice but I am willing to try most anything as long as it doesn't hurt. Since being diagnosed, I have lost about 10 lbs and my bgrs are staying within the normal range. My problem is with carbs more than sugar. Thanks for your reply. It is appreciated, critters

I was using cinnamon I got in a large bottle from Costco. No need to use capsules.

Quick word of warning: a lot of people get severe indigestion from taking large amounts of straight cinnamon. The pills can make it easier for your stomach to handle.
