Is drinking really bad for diabetics?

Alight so my 21st birthday is coming up and I really wanna go out and drink for it but my friends and family keep telling me it is so bad for diabetics to drink and that something bad could happen to me. So can someone please tell me, if I go out drinking for my birthday will I be ok? and I also heard that the alcohol can make you're sugars low? Is this true? ..

Re: Is drinking really bad for diabetics?

Excessive drinking is bad for anyone, but everything in moderation...Alcohol can make your sugar go low, so if you plan to have a few drinks, make sure to eat a good meal first. Watch out for sugar loaded coolers and high carb beer. If you don't over do it, there is no reason why you couldn't have a couple of drinks.
Have a great birthday!
