I just started on Nova 7030 insulin about six days ago. I normally take 30 min. before breakfast (15 units) and 30 min. before dinner (20 units). I messed up today because I'm not used to taking my insulin with me. I had a hot dog on a piece of grain bread for lunch, and stayed over at my dad's all day, and we had a barbeque and ate around 4 and I had a hot dog on bun and hamburger on bun as well as some potato salad and cole slaw. I passed it off thinking I only had a hot dog for lunch so this would be a late lunch and then I would take insulin later, but I still haven't taken it and it's 7:10 p.m. because I am not going to eat again after having the barbeque at my dad's. can anyone tell me how to proceed, if I should take the evening dose anyway and eat a piece of fruit after 30 min. I'm so used to taking oral meds after my meals that this insulin business is hard for me to adjust to, but I know it will have dire consequences if I don't smarten up. Any advice is appreciated.
