I am taking 500 mg of Metoformin per day. Is it OK to break it in half and take 250 mg per day. After many years with diabetis II, I feel like 500 mg is too much.
Why would you think it's too much? Are your sugars too low? This is something you should discuss with your doctor. Is there a reason you haven't asked him/her?
There is an extended-release version of Metformin called Glucophage XR ... this tablet cannot be broken, must be taken whole. I don't think there is a generic of this extended-release type available.
I take the extended version. It agrees with me very well. I have recently reduced my dose but that was after discussion with my doctor and blood tests. I wouldn't try and reduce without medical advice.
I take 500mg 3 times a day and it controls my sugar just fine. I'm still new to all this diabetes thing. Just found out 3 1/2 months ago that I had it.
I have just been diagnosed and was prescribed Metformin 500mg once a day before bedtime. The side effects scare me,especially the one that says it could cause death. Could anyone tell me if they have had any problems?????
