I'm on the same boat as you. I'm Type 2, on Metformin & Glyburide. My last A1C was 5.9 also, but more now than before whenever i high sugared foods (granola bar, cake, ice cream, etc) i'm in the 200-300's!
I must admit that after being diagnosed a year ago, and despite all i've read and have been told, i am still trying to understand this disease.

Test your blood sugar before you eat, 1 hr. after eating, 1 1/2 hr. after eating, and at 2 hr after eating.

This will indicate what your blood sugar is doing after you eat.

Are you on medication for diabetes? Insulin, pills?
What is your normal fasting?
What is your normal BS 2 hrs. after a meal?
What do you normally eat for breakfast? How many carbs?
What do you normally eat for lunch or dinner? How many carbs?

It could be the BS is spiking real high and then suddenly dropping.

Remember, the A1c is an average. If BS is high and then very low it will average out to be a lower A1c number.
