A year ago I had a physical and took blood test - fasted the night before and when I got the results. My glucose level was 106 and my doctor said with diet and exercise I could get rid of the pre diabetes. So throughout the year I did exercise but I didn't lose a whole lot. I am overweight but I do walk 2 miles a day. I recently had to go to the emergency room because I had a gallbladder attack so while in the hospital they took my blood and my Glucose level was 84 but I didn't fast. So after taking more test for Gallbladder because I am due to have surgery to remove the gallbladder they did another test for cholesterol and everything else. My glucose was 109 after fasting. I recently lost 38 lbs and still losing. Could I still get rid of pre diabetes if I lose weight?
Hard to know, Gigi. A lot will depend on your age and family history. So, it might be possible for you to avoid diabetes, and it is quite likely that if you stick to your diet/exercise regimen, at the least you'll be able to delay the onset of full-blown diabetes for many years.
I am 40 years old - it does not run in my family at all. I am overweight but just lost 37 lbs and walk 30 minutes eat day. I eat small meals everyday that consist of fruit, vegetables, and protein, and no snakes. So I do eat very well.
Gigi, you've got a lot going for you right now. Just keep up with the exercise and diet, and know that you've probably dodged the bullet of diabetes through your hard work with the diet and exercise. Keep it up and get down to your target weight, and you may never have to deal with this insidious disease.
