Low HbA1c levels are desirable, especially for those who are known to suffer from diabetes. The HbA1c test is the prime feedback upon which diabetics base their sugar control regimen, including their diet, exercise, and medication.
HbA1c levels of below 5 are nondiabetic. Diabetics who can manage their blood sugar levels to have a resultant HbA1c below 7 (and some authorities want 6.5) are in good control of their diabetes during the 6-8 week period prior to the test.
