is it okay to take hyaluronic acid, chondroitin, and collagen?

Hi Everyone - How are you today?

I have a question - my husband is a type 2 diabetic and has been for many years. He is on two different meds and his blood sugars are generally good. But as he is aging he is having more and more pain - joints, muscles, etc. - I have read that glucosamine should not be used by type 1 diabetics but my husband is to afraid to take it. I also read some articles on the benefits of hyaluronic acid and thought maybe this would work for him, but again he is afraid to take it without knowning how it will affect his blood sugars. So can anyone tell me if 100mg of hyaluronic acid, 200mg of chondroitin sulfate, 600mg of hydrolyzed collagen type II, and 1000mg of biocell collagen II would cause a problem with his blood sugars? I would really like to get him started on it as soon as possible! Thanks a million everyone and have a great holiday :-)

Re: is it okay to take hyaluronic acid, chondroitin, and collagen?

I was waiting to see if someone had experience to share before answering myself. I have never taken any of this, so I have no direct evidence to help you with.

There is not much data on this.... you might consider adding one supplement at a time to the regimen for a couple weeks to see if you think it negatively affects his sugar levels...and by how much, if at all....

If my HbA1c went from 5.7 to 6 and I was getting pain relief as a benefit, I think I would continue taking the supplement. However, if it went from 5.7 to 10, I would have to seriously rethink whether it was "worth it".
