Expired glucose strips

So I was doing some spring cleaning today and I found a box of strips I didn't even know I had. Unfortunately, they're expired...I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea if I could still use them? It seems like such a waste to have to throw them out given the fact that strips are so expensive...Anyone?

I also found a whole box of needles I didn't know I had either so I sort of feel like I won the lottery of sorts (they're 8mm and I use 6mm now, but who cares, it's just one less box of needles I have to buy!)...I really don't know how I could've "forgotten" I had these strips/needles but I'm not complaining

Re: Expired glucose strips

If they're not years out-of-date, they'll probably work fine. One way to test them is to test with current strips and then with the older ones (be sure to recode your meter each time.) If the results are close, then they're probably fine. Also, if you have any control solution, you could test the old strips with that...but if you're like most of us, you long ago gave up using control solution, lol.
