Re: blood in throat

I was diagnosed with diabetes in 1966 and have never had that problem with bleeding gums or throat. I would definitely go and see the doctor about this. It is not normal.

Re: blood in throat

It sounds like you've got a serious caseof gingivitis. Cora is right...you need to see a dentist, and soon. Untreated gingivitis can lead to tooth loss.

Gingivitis can often be cleared up through deep scaling (by your dentist or periodontist) and rigid adherence to tooth/gum cleaning, which should include flossing at night, then brushing, and brushing in the morning. A dental hygienist can teach you how to brush properly and I personally would highly recommend an electric toothbrush. Having lost two teeth to periodontal disease, I now take much better care of my mouth, and through use of an electric toothbrush and daily flossing, my dental hygienist has almost nothing to do when I go for my bi-annual cleaning, whereas before I started taking such good care, it would take her a good hour of scraping to get the plaque off my teeth.

The one thing about diabetes is that it does make you more prone to gum disease.

Ruth

Re: blood in throat

Don't know how long this has been going on, but NO way is it normal. The bleeding gums could be sensitive gums or gingivitis, but to wake up with blood in your mouth and have it when you eat something sweet is definately something that needs checking out.

My husband has very sensitive gums and uses Sensodine, which has helped a lot, but that is a lot different then what your experiencing.

PLEASE call your Dr. or dentist and get it checked. JJ

Re: blood in throat

JJ,

I thought sensodyne and other toothpastes like it helped the sensitivity in the teeth...not necessarily in the gums. Have I misunderstood that?
