Very quick question on A1C

Does blood drawn for A1C have to be fasting? The A1C is all my Dr. wrote the order for so there's no other tests to consider.

Re: Very quick question on A1C

No, it does not need to be fasting because it takes into account our blood sugars over the last 3 months (most accurate for the last 6 weeks).

Re: Very quick question on A1C

i ws told it was i just took my daughter for her test to see if she had diabetes.....she didnt eat after 9 pm on sun and took the test monday morning at 11 30 a.m. they poked her finger first and her number was 109 and then took blood and i got the resulst yesterday and they told me her stuff back from the test A1c i believe it was or HBA1c if their is a diffrence but the number was 5.6 and they told me she was fine but i read on it and everything i read says its pre diabetes and to be retested with in days and then every 3-6 months......and all that was results of fasting for over 12 hours for a 6 year old. so i have questions if she is pre diabetes or normal? should i worry! lets help each other thanks

In your daughters case they took both a fasting glucose and an a1c. So it had to be fasting. If it had just been an a1c, then it wouldn't have had to be fasting.
