Do statins raise fasting blood sugar?
I'm 36, white, male, 5'11" and 162 lbs. In best shape of my life. Have lost 30 lbs. over past 3 years. Was recently placed on 10 mg of Simvastatin (Zocor) for total cholesterol of 238, which runs in the family. My 3 month blood rest showed good results lowering cholesterol, but my blood sugar was 113. Had lots of coffee that morning, without sugar, as the nurse said I could. Then I read caffeine can raise. So I retested a few weeks later with a true fast, nothing but water, and got a 99 on blood sugar. Can this drug raise blood sugar? I've seen confilicting reports it may. When I was much heavier and not in as good of shape, my fasting blood sugar was in the 70s. Before the statin. I have no diabetic symptoms. In fact, I pee maybe at most 6 times a day, some days 3.
