Why did my glucose level go up if I didn't eat?

I am a type II diabetic. I usually eat my breakfast at work during my first break which is about 10:00 am (I go to work at 8:15 am). Usually about once or twice a week I've been getting really really tired before break and most of the time I feel pretty good after I eat. I didn't know if it was because I have insomnia and was just sleepy or if it was from anxiety or fatigue or my sugar was high or low or whatever it was. I only need to test my sugar once a day. I decided to take my meter to work and see what my glucose level is when I get really tired. I had checked it before when I felt that way and it was normal, I decided to do it again.

I checked my sugar first thing this morning and it was 89. I was really really tired again this morning before break and checked my sugar level. It was 106. I could see if it went down because I hadn't eaten, but why would it go up?

Re: Why did my glucose level go up if I didn't eat?

sandi2932: It's the dawn effect - it's glucose coming out of your liver. 106 isn't bad anyway. It's better than it being lower than 70. What happens before work? Are you walking or exercising? That will make your sugars go up too. Exercise is a natural insulin. The sugar will go up and then correct itself a while later. It's the fight or flight response where the liver produces the glucose so you don't faint when exercising.

I'm amazed that you wait until 10 a.m. to eat breakfast. Fatigue is a symptom of low sugars. What time do you get up in the morning? Why don't you try eating something before you start out to go to work and see what happens. The 10 a.m. time is the time for something light, maybe a 15-25 carb snack. Try switching things around if you can and see how the numbers change.

Re: Why did my glucose level go up if I didn't eat?

I just can't get myself going in the mornings, so I don't have time to eat breakfast before I leave for work. I get up about 45 minutes to one hour before I go to work. At least I try to. I forgot to add in my message that I don't take my diabetic pill until my morning break too. I am going to see a diatition next month, I hope he can give me some pointers. I missed the first one. My brain hasn't been working very well for a while.
