Question Do You prime every injection with lantus solostar?

Hi , my question is do you prime with every injection using lantus solostar pen
I've Been priming 2 units as directed every injection.
It seems like such a waste of insulin but I do it because I'm told I'm suppose too . I'm Wondering if every one else primes
every time?

hi, yes you prime before you inject everytime, but 1 unit is fine instead of 2. i have been on the lantus since 2004, 60 units twice a day.

yeah I prime but with only 1 unit. A few drops come out and that's enough for me to say yeah it's ready. I agree with you it's such a waste. I also don't like that there is insulin left in the needle and you can't get the last little bit.

I prefered the old needles and bottles because I could get every little drop out of them. But the pens are eaiser when out in public or with friends. But I waste so much insulin now.

Try priming with one unit instead of two.

Re: Do You prime every injection with lantus solostar?

I told my doc that the pen instructions say the user should prime the pen with two units. My doc says it's a waste of insulin. He says there's no need to prime the pen. I've been on Lantus SoloStar since April 2010 and I have not had a problem. I have never primed any of my pens. But, that's just my opinion and my docs opinion. You should do what your doc tells you.
