what is a good snack before bed?

i am always hungry around 9 and i go to bed about 10.
i want to have something to eat but not a real big meal.

is it ok to have like half a sandwich before bed or some
low carb crackers with milk?

or should i have protein only before bed for a snack.?

Re: what is a good snack before bed?

Because I take a "bunch" of pain meds at bedtime, I like to have something in my stomach too. If I don't, I wake up in the middle of the night with a bad heartburn. I've been experimenting with different snacks. One that will not raise the sugar but will prevent the heartburn is cheese wrapped in chicken or turkey cold cuts. It seems to work.

Re: what is a good snack before bed?

Everyone is different, so I don't think there is any "one" snack for all. I have to have something before bed as well or I will wake up about 4 hungry, so I switch between a couple of pieces of prevalone cheese wrapped with a slice of turkey/chicken or a half piece of whole wheat bread with some peanutbutter on it. I'd skip the milk as milk has sugar in it as well. Like everyone, experiment to see what satisfies you while not raising your sugar levels. JJ

my morning fastings are all over the board and i dont know if i can get it stable under 100 at some point again like it was a few weeks ago:
i started nov. 13th to keep a log per Dr. request for fasting and since then they have been as low as 87 vo 17th and as high as 124 dec. 3rd. this whole last week they have been high and before that they were moreso in the mid to upper 90's. i dont think that that is a good thing and i dont know why they went up but it does worry me that maybe i'm doing something wrong to make them higher these days compared to a few weeks ago..i hope it doesnt mean that ive progressed from prediabetes to diabetes 2 and i guess i wont know till next month some time when it will be 3 months for my aic again...i am praying that it has gone down and not up! i will stay away from the milk at bedtime and maybe just do one slice of bread or half slice of bread with some deli turkey or something maybe even the peanut butter as that sounds good! thanks so much for the help!

Re: what is a good snack before bed?

Good suggestions by all. I would like to emphasize the experiment part. It's not always intuitive. Sometimes if you don't eat enough prior to going to bed, your blood sugar goes low around 4am. Your body then releases glycogen to compensate and you wake up high. Just something to keep in mind.

Re: what is a good snack before bed?

popcorn is a good idea or 1/2 cup of icecream. Icecream has both sugar and protein so the protein helps keep you from absorbing the sugars too fast.
