Always sleepy

Hello,
My blood sugars tend to run a little on the high side.
I currently take metformin @ 1000mg twice a day.
I am tired much of the time and especially sleepy after
eating a meal. I just feel so bad sometimes that I can
hardly stay awake. Does anyone else experience this
sleepiness much of the time?
Thanks,
Madison

Re: Always sleepy

Madison, you also might want to check and see if you have Sleep Apnea. There can be a bit of drowsiness after meals, but if you're not getting enough sleep at night, that might explain the excessive sleepiness.

Re: Always sleepy

Madison55; Have you had your thyroid and adrenal glands checked? Thyroid problems can make you sleepy. It's all part of the endocrine system. What does your diabetes doctor say?

Re: Always sleepy

I find that exercise 3 times a week (and by exercise I mean really sweat, aerobics, running hard, gym classes, lifting weights) and keeping my sugars in check make all the difference. Exercise will give you much more energy. Eat veggies, lots of different types they all have stuff that fuels your body.

Now you have to really give the exercise a chance....4 weeks at least in order to feel more energy. Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

Re: Always sleepy

definitely have your TSH checked (simple blood test) to rule out Thyroid issues, but this sounds more like high BGs after meals - you need to count your carbs and record your numbers if you really want to correct this.
