Diabetes and Foot Infection

My Mom is 60 years old, and is diabetic for about 20years. The Drs. have not been able to diagnose and treat this for over 6 weeks now. Wide-spectrum antibiotics have not helped. Blood flow, X-Rays, Sonography and Color Doppler Sonography, Kidney and all other tests have come out to be normal.

Here are the pictures:

Re: Diabetes and Foot Infection

The infection does not look like one but more like vasculitis.-- Inflammation of the blood vessels.

I think your Mother needs to see a different Doctor.

Re: Diabetes and Foot Infection

Do you know how many glasses of liquids your mother drinks during the day... coffee, tea, water, etc?

Do you know how many calories your mother eats per meal, and for the day? What kind of a Diabetic diet is she on?

Thank you for your reply. Could you please let us know kinds of tests required to diagnose this condition to the fullest.

What kind of specialist I should show her to.

Thanks once again.

Re: Diabetes and Foot Infection

Leslie,

In addition to an Endocrinolgist for diabetes-- I think she needs to see a Team that treats low blood flow in the lower legs.

My sister had vasculitis and she was treated at a Teaching Hospital-- The treatment (steroids) caused her to have drug induced diabetes. Once the inflammation was helped -- the diabetes was reduced.

I don't know the tests that were conducted but there were alot of Doctors involved --- 7 or 8. and she was in the Hospital for 30 days.

The admiting Doctor was a Kidney speciallist.

I am sorry I don't know more.

I wish her well ---Harry

Re: Diabetes and Foot Infection

I'm a Type 2 diabetic who is prone to frequent cellulitis infections.

I strongly urge you to take your mom to a vascular specialist as soon as possible.
