Post pregnancy pre-diabetes
I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes while pregnant with my first child last summer. I took the 3 hour GTT and failed at the 1 hour and 2 hour marks -- I don't remember the numbers, but they were both under 200. My post-meal numbers were controlled by diet & exercise, but I eventually needed to take 5mg glyburide to control my am fasting number.
I was in the "overweight" category to start. I lost 30 pounds while following a diet and am now in the "normal" range. My great uncle had diabetes. I'm 28. No other risk factors.
Post-pregnancy, I tested my levels a few times after a meal and it was well within the normal range. Yesterday, I tested my levels first thing in morning, and my number was 104.
My question is -- does anyone know if breastfeeding (I've been doing it for 7 months) and horomonal changes due to a menstrual cycle have any effect on sugar levels? I know that number isn't too high but it was a little concerning. I havent been eatit ng well or exercising so thats not helping. Day 1 of "eat better and go to the gym" started yesterday :-)
