Question new to Diabetes

I have just found out that I have diabetes. There is so much information on what to do like diet, extersice. and so on.
what I need is to find out what is the simplest stuff to do. You know sort out the coffee grinds from the coffee. I have been told to not eat any sugar, or any white flour.
Is there any site that can tell me what to do? I am totaly confused. I need some meal plans or something like that. I go to the gym 4 to 5 times a week. I would appericate any information.

Re: new to Diabetes

Welcome. We can't post any sites but do a search for low glycemic and low carb foods. Yes white stuff and sugar are not your "best friends" but I myself have cheated a few times but trust me..VERY few times. I guess it makes one feel good to indulge once in awhile.

Best thing you can do it eat to your meter. While experimenting with foods check your meter after trying something new to see how it affects you. Some folks are very sensative and others can handle a few things. I have no problems eating oatmeal every morning, yet others have found their numbers to go up too much..it's all hit and miss. Once you find out what will or will not affect you in a bad way, your choices get better and easier.

Wishing you the best....JJ....

Re: new to Diabetes

Hi Jerry welcome to the wonderful world of diabetes! One of the problems I have is too much information. It's hard to sort out the garbage from the truth. One red flag for me is when someone says never eat certain foods. We are all differant. What is bad for one person might not bother the next one. Like JJ said she can eat oatmeal, so can I but it makes my glucose jump.
Just hang in there, we're all in this together!
