Terrified

All my life I have had a weight problem. Food is my comfort, my drug. I am now 51 (female) and weigh 214. I guess it has finally all caught up with me. I knew I was headed for diabetes last yr when my fasting glucose was 109 and my A 1c was 6.4 I have had alot of stress this yr and I really went off the wagon with food and today I got my blood work and my A1c was 8.1 and my fasting gluocse was 140. I am ashamed, terrifed, feel tremendous guilt and feel like I have just brough all this upon myself. For the last 2 weeks, I have been eating healthy, walking every night and taking care of myself. I saw my Dr 2 weeks ago and she gave me a month to exercise and eat right and said if she did not see results she would put me on meds. That was before my blood work came in. From what I know 8.1 is really, really bad. Am I done or can I reverse this number by lsoing weight and exercise. I am terrified beyound belief. I really need a friend right now. Please help....

Re: Terrified

Why so afraid? Do what you can to reverse the disease, loose the weight and get in shape. If that does it, great. If not, you take a pill and watch your diet . It is what it is.

Re: Terrified

Hi Red, an A1c of 8.1 isn't good but it isn't the worse either. You can reverse it by exercise (walking is a great exercise for Diabetes)and diet. But if that doesn't work then yes you may have to get on oral medication. Don't be afraid, Diabetes is manageable. Keep us posted on how you're doing.
