Was my blood sugar tested?

I took a blood test recently and would like to know if my blood sugar (diabetes) was tested. Is Blood sugar usually included in a blood test? What should i look for in the blood test results?

Re: Was my blood sugar tested?

I don't know what the new procedures are, but about 11 years ago, my GP did not routinely test. I had to schedule an appointment and insist they test, because I had extreme thirst.
Some medical offices now have your lab records on-line so you can review them. (I have seen this with Duke Healthcare.) Look for test that says A1C. (It measures your average blood sugar level for the last 3 months.) If it was abnomal, your doctor should have called to tell you, because it's a life threatening condition if the blood sugar is too high.

If you have reason to suspect diabetes, I would insist on a test. Sometimes they have you fast and then drink this sweet liquid before taking the test.

Re: Was my blood sugar tested?

Normally they do a fasting glucose test but not usually an A1c unless they have seen high glucose numbers. Every year at my physical I always had a glucose test along with any other major blood work. If your able to see the report just look for glucose reading on the report, if not there ask your Dr. if it was done. If your worried then by all means ask for either a fasting glucose or an A1c..which is a non fasting test but will give you your average for the last 3-4 months.

Good luck..JJ..
