Question What affects symptoms - help needed please

I wanted to know about the symptoms of pre-diabetes/diabetes 2 and what affects them:
Symptoms:
tingling feet, thirst, frequent urination, blurry vision and exhaustion.
And whether these can be reduced or improved markedly by any of the following
actions:
1. A low-carbohydrate/ low-GI diet, or
2. A more intense exercise regime, or
3. Metformin medication

I am not obese and exercise regularly.
Thanks.

Basically those are symptoms of either pre or Diabetes but you would need a blood test to be totally sure. Most Drs. will ask you to try a low carb and low glycemic diet to bring any high numbers down but obviously if numbers are too high then they put you on meds. Even if one is put on meds. they should still follow the low carb/glycemic diet and exercise..it all helps.

Good luck..JJ...

Re: What affects symptoms - help needed please

It can be dangerous to diagnose yourself just based on symptoms. There are a few other illnesses that can cause some of these symptoms. Best thing to do would be to see your doctor and ask him/her for an A1C test, which will give your average blood sugar levels over the past 8-12 weeks.

If your A1c is between 5.7% and 6.4%, you would be diagnosed as pre-diabetic. If your A1c is 6.5% or higher, you would be diagnosed with diabetes.

Then the key would be to keep your numbers under tight control. A low-carb diet can be helpful for this, but one can only go so low with carbs without eliminating nutrients that the body needs. Medication can help reduce the insulin resistance so that your body can process at least the amount of carbs one needs to provide those nutrients. But whether you need medication or not will be dependent on just how high your blood sugar runs and whether dietary and exercise modification will help.
