Higher Readings in the morning

Diabetes runs in my family. However, I have never been diagnosed with diabetes but I am somewhat concerned about my morning readings. After fasting all night my readings can run anywhere from 102-110. The readings will come down in the 90's and high 80's during the day. Why are they above normal in the morning hours say around 10 am??

Re: Higher Readings in the morning

Hormones, what you ate the night before, stress are all things that can cause high blood sugars in the morning. The liver is designed to make glucose for your brain when you have no food- so you in type 2 diabetes, it sometimes makes sugar irregularly. Have you tried a snack of protein before bed. Sometimes that helps.

Remember, fat is a hormone. If you have an excess of fat, many different things in the body are affected. That is why loosing even 10lbs can make a difference in your health.

Re: Higher Readings in the morning

Read up on the dawn phenomenon. Sometimes the longer you fast the higher your numbers. We just had this discussion with my Dr. wed as my husband mentioned to her that it seems the longer he fasts the higher his morning numbers. Have a slight snack before bedtime and see if it doesn't help.

Good luck..JJ...

Re: Higher Readings in the morning

Try some almonds just befor you go to bed or a graham cracker, something small but enough carbs to carry you through the night. It helps sometimes.
