Question maybe you can explain it to me...

OK... Where to start...

a little history:
I had well controlled gestational diabetes (insulin, diet and exercise) 8 months ago.
Obese (working on it but having trouble losing weight, thyroid issues being assessed).

My recent blood work:
A1C 6.2, fasting 115
Also... I have high normal thyroid (TSH) with many symptoms of hypothyroid and am following up on this
Also my AST (liver) was slightly elevated (mild fatty liver... again this is being addressed and could be just a reaction to my flu shot since the elevation is so small).

QUESTION:
My post meal number are excelent (90-115 for 2 hour post meal) regardless of what I eat. I am on no meds or anything (just tracking for now to see patterns). My fasting number though is always 115-120. I'm trying to figure out why. I am still nursing my 8 month old and he has been waking at least once through the night to eat (so 8-9pm, then sometime between 2 and 3 and again around 6 ) and I usually get up around 8am. Could this frequent waking be causing my higher fasting number? Is there something else possibly going on.

Re: maybe you can explain it to me...

It is probably dp (dawn phenomenon). This is where your liver causes glucose to be released during the night to prepare you for a busy day. Do you bother to test when you are up with your baby? Maybe you will be able to see when it is rising. Some folks have success eating a small snack (protein or fat with a bit of carb) to short circuit this. Maybe this will help you.
