Glucose test reaction

I am a 44 year old non-obese woman who has a strong family history of type 2 diabetes. When I was pregnant with my youngest at 40 I had severe gestational diabetes my entire pregnancy and was even hospitalized for high blood sugars a few times. In fact, I was taking 75-100 units of insulin per day and was on insulin my entire pregnancy. I have casually been keeping track of my BS and they have slowly been creeping up. Therefore, my Dr recommend a fasting and 2 hour test w/that lovely glucose drink. After the drink I actually fell asleep in the chair in the waiting room about 15 mins after the drink. I am the type of person who never falls asleep sitting up. Is sudden and severe fatigue a symptom of the glucose drink?

Re: Glucose test reaction

It could have been due to your blood sugar shooting up from the glucose drink. It often makes people very sleepy. Do you have the test results back yet? I hope you are in the clear, but if not, at least you already have good info and some docs tracking you. Feel free to ask lots of questions.

Re: Glucose test reaction

I haven't gotten the test results back yet because I had several other things they were looking at as well (THS, CA125, Thyroid). I should find out about the diabetic stuff until tomorrow, or Wednesday at the latest.
