Initially I was on Rx Actos and then switched a few years ago to Metformin 1000 mg. My most recent Aic is 6.8

Creatinine , serum 0.74
urine trace glucose
AST 53
ALT 96

Trigs 200
hdl 34
Previously my Aic was in the 5.8 range.
My doctor wants me to go on insulin is this too soon to go on insulin as my Aic is not that elevated. Does Metformin have less effect over long term use ?
