Metoprolol and High Blood Glucose
My doctor has recently changed my blood pressure medication from Atenolol to Metoprolol. Ever since taking this new medication, my blood glucose levels have been extremely high. Neither my diet nor my activity level have changed. I have read that Metoprolol can increase the blood sugars, even though my doctor doesn't think so. I would appreciate and comments on this. Thanks.

Not really. It can cause a slight rise in blood subar, but its temporary. I take metoprolol and I am also diabetic. I have not seen a change in blood sugar or A1c since taking it.

Have to agree with Bob. My husband was switched from Atenolol to Metoprolol and he is also Diabetic yet it hasn't affected him. I have read that both those meds. can raise your BS and even though it may not affect everyone it's a possibility it may be affecting you for some weird reason. Maybe you should ask your Dr. to switch you back as long as the Atenolol didn't bother you and see if it stops. What may not bother one person just may bother another.
