Hi,

My husband was recently diagnosed with Type 2 and I was wondering if he keeps NOT taking care of himself, how long before it can go to Type 1?

Type 2 does not become type 1. It is possible that at some point he will require insulin, but he will still be a type 2. How long the process takes from going from diet/exercise to oral meds to insulin varies tremendously from person to person and there is no way to predict an accurate time line. Sorry I can't be more help.

Ditto what Cora said. I just want to add, though, that if he refuses to take care of himself and manage his T2 better, then he will be on insulin sooner rather than later. At this point he may be able to avoid EVER going on insulin, but that he won't be able to do that if he continues to eat inappropriately and avoid exercise.

I'm not sure if he will ever take care of himself. He's not following Dr orders and won't listen to me. Typical man I guess...or at least typical my man..hehe
