prediabetes. is it possible to control diabetes with diet alone?

Is it possible to control prediabetes with diet alone. I can't excercise due to needing two knee replacements.

It is possible, Lorene, but it's more difficult when you can't exercise. You can try low-carbing and see if that helps, but if you find your blood glucose levels starting to creep up, you may have to go on medication. Of course, that may be temporary until you have your knee replacements; sometimes if you can get into a good low-carb and exercise routine, you can then go off medication.

Talk to your doctor about it and see what he/she thinks. This is also going to depend on just how "pre" your pre-diabetes actually is...if you're edging close to the actual diabetes level, you may want to just go with medication until after you've had your knee replacements.

Re: prediabetes. is it possible to control diabetes with diet alone?

thank you for answering my questions Ruth.. Needing two replacements will take along time to recover from. I'm not getting them done at the same time.. I'll need to wait for months to get the first one done and it takes months of physical therapy to recover the use of the knee. I am probably looking at two yrs timeframe here. So yes I will talk to my doctor about all this..

boy when it rains, it pours.

Yes, it does (rain/pour)...but you will get through this. My understanding of knee replacements (from a few friends who've had them) is that you're going to be exercising fairly quickly after the surgery...and even if you're not walking fast, it'll still be exercise. They say that the more you stick to your physical therapy, the better your recovery.
