Question Can Fasting Time Influence BS Readings?

Is there a significant difference between a fasting blood sugar reading obtained after fasting during the night 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. (conducted at 8:00 a.m.) and a reading obtained after fasting during the day 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.(conducted at 5:00 p.m.)? And if there is any difference which one is better to determine the presence or absence of Pre-diabetes or Diabetes?

Re: Can Fasting Time Influence BS Readings?

There is a difference between the 2. If you fast during the day and are busy, your liver may dump additional glucose to keep you energized. So the overnight fasting typically works better. In addition to that, one of the best ways to check for diabetes is to see how you react to carbs. Test yourself if you can 2 hours after a meal or get an oral glucose tolerance test.

Re: Can Fasting Time Influence BS Readings?

THANK YOU CORA; Can I take table-sugar instead of glucose to conduct the oral glucose tolerance test? Does table-sugar (white sugar) substitute glucose in performing the OGTT?

Re: Can Fasting Time Influence BS Readings?

I don't want to seem dumb but are white table-sugar and glucose the same thing?
