| 250 mg/dl glucose in urine-- confused...
I went to the urgent care doctor yesterday for a probable urinary tract infection. Along with confirming the UTI, my urinalysis showed 250 mg/dl glucose. It also showed I was slightly dehydrated. The doctor asked if I had eaten a lot of sugar or soda-- I hadn't. I'd had lunch about an hour before (hamburger on bun). Earlier in the day I'd had an egg white omelette for breakfast.
From what I have read online, some people say glucose in urine is never normal. Others say it can happen sometimes and it doesn't mean you have diabetes.
I am an otherwise healthy 41-year-old, a healthy weight, exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet. I am concerned because my father had a form of congenital kidney disease and I am afraid something is wrong with my kidneys, or I might have diabetes.
I'm calling my primary care doc to follow up but was wondering if anyone knows anything about this.
