I have made great strides with my bs by Metformin 500mg, diet and exercise in just 10 days.
My bs levels have droped by almost 50% my highest am reading was 237 and my lowest was 139. My second of the day (2 hours after my mid day meal) started at 198 and is down to 87 today. That was after a 2 mile walk.
My question is how many carbs a day do you eat? The dietitian has me on a total of 105 grams of carbs a day. 30 for each meal and 15 for my snack. But no carbs wit my evening meal. That means I really only get 75 grams a day. And I am supposed to use them all. I have not met the 105 yet. I have not anything white except a couple of vegetables in 10 days.
I am totally confused. Should I be eating more carbs? My average is only 55 a day.
The expression of "eat to your meter" is excellent. This means that if your glucose is ok at the 2 hour mark after eating carbs, and you want more, then try it and see what happens. If you are satisfied with what you are eating and your numbers are good, don't worry. What white veggies are you eating? Most veggies have a lot of color and are excellent for you (lots of antioxidants).
Thanks for your reply. The white veggie is cauliflower. I love most veggies and have been trying to add more into my diet. My bs was 136 this morning. The last thing I ate last night was a fat free smoked turkey hot dog (no bun). Carb value 5g about 10 pm. I really wanted a sweet but I resisted. I just don't understand why I cant get my morning sugar to come down. We do eat a little later than most people but there is usually still 12 hours between dinner and my am test.
I have had pancreatic surgery so I have no body of my pancreas. I just don't think that is the problem because that was 10 years ago.
Morning numbers often go up because of the dawn phenomenon. What happens is that your liver triggers the release of glucose into your system to prepare for the day. Sometimes a small carb snack with fat or protein the night before will short circuit this. Something like peanutbutter and a couple of small crackers. This works for some people, but not everyone.
I guess it worked. Only I tasted everything I could get in my mouth last night.
I finally had a greek yogurt (22g carbs) just before bed because I wanted something sweet. It was sooo good.
I went to the dr yesterday. He sad I am doing fantastic. My numbers are way down and I have lost 6 lbs in 10 days. He did add another Metformin so I am at 1000mg now. My bs was 114 (down from 271) this morning. I don't know if it is the meds or not. Anyway I am happy with my results. Meds or not. I have walked 14 miles in 10 days and I have also added 10lbs of weights while I walk. Im going to let this get the best of me. I want to be healthy. I have 7 grandchilden to be nannie to.
