My husband has diabetes. The only time he takes his insulin is when he gets shaky and weak, during those times it's usually over 500. He has been urinating EXCESSIVE amounts for months. I mean like gallons a day, and it's not from drinking too many liquids. He goes about 1-2 liters every time, and he goes often and all night long. I know it will eventually kill him, he doesn't seem to care. He has already had one heart attack, sleep apnea, 2 DVT's, a pulmonary embolism and the diabetes. He just doesn't care. He doesn't take any of his blood thinners, use his c-pap, diabetic meds...nothing.
My question is; how long can this excessive urination go on before he dies? Please be frank and honest with me. Thank you.
I can't give you a straight answer. Sorry, but no one can. If he already has heart issues, going into dka (diabetic keto acidosis) can also provoke a heart attack. The dka can occur with chronic high blood sugars, so he could easily get himself into dire straits. I'm sorry I can't be more help, but he needs to take better care of himself or he will die sooner, rather than later given all his other health problems.
I wish there was a way I could help you force him to get help. However, he needs to take care of himself. His sugar must be very high. When I was little, my Mom always knew I was high when I drank my milk down. Nice cold milk helped with the thirst because I normally didn't like it that much. On the other hand, there are carbs in milk and he is probably sending himself higher. Sorry I can't do more than just support you here. Best of luck.
Some one has to talk some sense into your husband!!!!!! He can not go on like this many more days!!!!. Does he have children ? If so you and the children must talk to him.. Insist that he take his insulin. Would he let you give him his shots and test his sugar levels???? Time to get tough with him and make him take better care of himself Good luck
