Diabetic, wound on foot

54 year old man
type two diabetic taking insulin
Healthy weight
Previous blood clot, on blood thinners.
My dad punctured his ankle in our screen door (aluminum) and it made a hole in his ankle.
We cleaned it up and it was good, but then a few days ago it started to bleed at work and the ankle started to get swollen.
Today, at work (he has a physical job) he said it was very painful to stand on.
What should we do?

Re: Diabetic, wound on foot

I'm sorry to say that between diabetes, blood clots, blood thinners, and a wound, he should have seen a doctor immediately. Antibiotics are probably necessary and the wound may have to be cleaned. Don't waste time and see someone. This is nothing to be trifled with.

Double ditto what Cora said. I tripped over a hose on my porch last year...just barely scraped my toe...and I ended up with cellulitis. Take your dad to the doctor ASAP.
