So I kept reading everywhere oatmeal is a good breakfast, if you wanna lose weight. Alright, this other person said it's fattening, so what is it?

Re: Quick quick question! PLEASE answer! About oatmeal

Stupid question, but you add lowfat milk to it, and put it in the microwave right?

It is near impossible to look at one food and say whether or not it is healthy or will hinder weight loss, etc. You need to look at the entire eating plan.

That said . . . if it is the kind of oatmeal you put in the microwave (that is, instant), it is a very refined product and best avoided. It does not take all that long to cook up the rolled oats.

Now, we are all different, but if I don't have a good portion of protein for breakfast, I am hungry all day. But, the important thing is what works for you!

Re: Quick quick question! PLEASE answer! About oatmeal

Quaker old fashioned rolled oats are okay . . . oat groats are better, but they need more extensive cooking.

Groats are the whole grains of oats that have been cut into pieces.

Rolled oats are the whole grains that have been put through rollers and flattened.

Have no idea whether either or both are available in the Netherlands.

Ooohh, they have a diameter or about half a centimeter and they're real flat. And they get like porridge after you added milk to them and put them in the microwave?

Re: Quick quick question! PLEASE answer! About oatmeal

I think oatmeal is a healthy food .. Fattening I think it may have a reverse effect if that is all you will eat. But to eat for breakfast, I do not see any harm. I have not heard of Oat Groats, but I do know anything that has not been processed a million times is better for you. When they start to process foods, much of their vitamins are lost in the process. So anything natural is the way to go..
