Does anyone have an idea of how many carbs a day one should eat, if they are interested in losing weight? (going say from 162 pounds to 150 pounds) over a period of a few months. In the South Beach Diet, the number of carbs per day doesn't seem to be addressed.
It seems that many of the sugar-free, and/or low-fat foods tend to be HIGH in carbs... I'm trying to figure out what's worse: more carbs or more fat content.
I am not positive but I think it depends on your weight and if you weigh 160 lbs then I would think eating around 120 grams a day would help you do that. You can't cut out carbs like the Atkins diet though. That is not good for you. You should reduce them a bit but increase your work out as well. Also eating smaller portions of food will help loose weight too. Americans eat way too much food at one sitting. Should eat 5 small meals a day
The number of carbs per day is irrelevant to weight loss, unless is has a direct impact on caloric consumption, which can easily be cut in better ways. Extreme low fat (below 20%) or extreme low carb (below 35%) is unhealthy, no matter what else you're eating.
I've low carbed before because it allegedly resolved blood sugar issues. That was before I had a clue about being healthy, though. Simple fact of the matter is that carbs aren't the enemy, even "bad" carbs. Massive portions and bad food choices/combinations are.
