Question???

I just started a diet last week. I don't eat over 1,000 calories, but yesterday and the day before that I went over by a few hundred. Is that going to effect me?

Re: Question???

you dont eat over 1000 calories??????????? i think u shud be posting on the eating disorder board if thats the case

the absolute minimum u shud eat on a diet is 1200, any less and ur body will lcik into starvation mode, trust me , i was once anorexic

if anything eating more than 1000 calores, maybe 1200 or more, will actually benefit you, ur body wont be hungry and storing excess fat to compensate.

please though, do eat more than 1000

yes just try it for a week and see if u notcie a difference, eat 1200 calories a day, and drink plenty of water
try and get a lilttle excersice but not too much as if u r doing too much then again ur burning too many calories for what ur taking in and u will be back to square one

if u sat on ur behind all day and didnt move an inch! ur body still burns about 100 calories anyway so u need more than 1000 to tick over

good luck

Re: Question???

If you stayed in bed all day and did nothing your body would burn a lot more than 100 calories a day. Depending on your sex, age, height it could be in the neighbourhood of 1500 calories a day. Eating below what it takes for your body to maintain itself like this for extended periods of time will permanently slow your metabolism.

Re: Question???

if u just want to tone up rather than losing weight, then why r u only eating 1000 calories a day???? if u jus want to tone up, eat normally perhaps a little more as u will be exercising. maybe eat 1500 if u dont wnt to lose an awful amount of weight, and just go the gym and go on the toning machines, try and avoid the cardiac ones as these will burn calories to no end, dont avoid them completly , maybe a 5 min run, but certainly no longer if ur eating so little
good luck

If you aren't trying to lose much weight then you should be eating a lot more. You can create your deficit via exercise and eating a good amount of food thereby keeping your metabolism from slowing. Cardio and weights help increase metabolism; eating enough keeps metabolism from slowing. Severe caloric restriction (such as you're doing) slows metabolism and makes losing fat hard - however, it makes losing muscle easy.

Tone is one of the words that has lost all meaning because it's used everywhere to mean everything. Muscle tone refers to the tension a muscle is under when it is at rest. To develop this you must have the muscle move something that causes it stress so that it must repair itself. If you move something that requires little effort you'll get little results. You want to move a weight that causes your muscles to suffer micro tears. Heavy is best for this. A weight heavy enough that you can only lift it 10 times or so with correct form. Usually 3 sets with 1 minute rest in between sets.

I don't know how much you weigh so I used 130 lbs. With your other stats I punched everything into a calculator and I got your BMR (the number of calories your body uses just to keep you alive and healthy) as 1406 calories and your total daily energy expenditure (this is the amount of calories you burn every day) as 2179 calories. Your BMR is the number you should NEVER eat below, especially if you're 16 and growing. If you subtract a healthy 15-20% off of your TDEE you should be eating 1800 - 1700 calories a day.

Re: Question???

I weigh exactly 130lbs! I'm a little scared to eat 1800 calories though. I'm scared I won't see any results.(I just started the whole consistent workout thing 2.5 weeks ago) But I'm absolutly sure you know what your talking about, so I guess i'll increase my calorie intake.

Thanks alot you're always a big help Gopherhead.

Re: Question???

You're welcome, Kap. why don't you try inceasing the calories s-l-o-w-l-y ? Going from 1000 to 1800 might be a shock to the old body, inch it up a little every day, then mix everything up for good measure, a few lower calorie days (I don't mean 1000 calorie low calories days here!) then one higher - the best way to get your body to burn fat and behave the way you want is to keep it guessing as to what is coming next. Neve let it adapt to your calorie level or your exercise routine.

Change is good.
