Sushi

I tend to eat a rather low carb diet (with most of my carbs coming from apples, bananas, vegetables, and beans) and so rice, bread, and pasta are not something I eat at all.
Tonight, however, I went out to a big sushi dinner and ate A LOT. This means I ate a lot of WHITE RICE...something I consider to be a worst enemy! Should I drastically restrict my carbs tomorrow to compensate? I feel really horrible about eating all that sushi, but it was way too tempting! Now I am worried that I am going to gain weight. I'm sure the crab and the spicy tuna had a lot of mayonnaise in them, as well, which is not a plus. All I keep thinking about is how I need to work out and can't eat a lot tomorrow (especially since thanksgiving and the holidays are coming up!). Is this irrational?

I do understand why you feel this way, but unless this is something you do on a regular basis, I don't think you should be so concerned about it. I say just get back on track with your diet and exercise today and for the rest of the week. Maybe add an extra workout one day this week and move on. I had 2 slices of pizza yesterday - not something I do very often. I feel a little guilty about it, but I just think about the big picture, which is that 99.99% of the time, I eat well, so I am not going to beat up myself over 2 little slices of pizza.

Re: Sushi

Yeah, you're absolutely right. It's just hard to look at the big picture sometimes. Today I got up and went to the gym- ran 30 minutes- and I know I'll get back on track. I'm feeling a lot better today.
Sushi is something I love, so I know I shouldn't not let myself have it. That would be ridiculous. I just hate how I have to feel bad about eating things that I love, even if it's not that often. Will I ever be able to just decide to eat a big fudgy brownie one day and be FINE with that? How do I do that??

Re: Sushi

LS289,

I don't think you're being irrational by being worried - its hard to stay on track on a low-carb diet and its so easy to fall off - but I wouldn't be too concerned. One night of sushi eating shouldn't do any harm as long as you don't continue with the carbs. Just go back to exactly how you were eating before and you should be okay.
