Hello! I would like to know if anyone out there has ever done a "fruits and vegetables fast". I'm a 14 yr. old female, not overweight at all. I would just like to do this for a week or so to see if I could make it... Another thing, would I lose alot of weight? Because I don't want to do that, my mom would get upset with me. A few pounds is fine though. Can anyone help me with this?
A fruit and vegetable fast is a healthy way to eliminate toxins from your body. It will also put less strain on your digestive system, freeing up energy for use in other areas of your body.
You will almost definitely lose weight on a fruit and vegetable fast. You will also get inadequate protein, so it's not something you should do for any extended period of time. Generally 2 or 3 days is plenty.
I think at your age you should be really careful with anything like that, because your body needs nutrients for growth and buolding strong bones and all that.
ocurt,
A few weeks trial should be no danger at all IF you make sure to get enough protein. That really means the bean family (mature beans, not green) at least one meal a day.
That's not hard with the availability of TOFU and peanuts...
Keep track to get at LEAST 50 grams of protein.
Popping a multivitamin will cover any shortages.
Make sure your caloric intake doesn't go below 1,200 kcal for safety's sake. The lower you go, the more likely you will gain rapidly once you start eating your regular diet...nobody wants that!
Basically, you are describing the VEGAN diet. Many people thrive for years on a diet like that. I wish I could give it a try but there's too much carnivore in my genes.
At 14 I wouldnt recommend it. Your body is in its peak growing years and needs all the nutrients it can get. Unless you need to medically, or have a strong belief that you need to do this, i would put it off for a couple years until your body has slowed the growing.
If this is just about making healthy choices, you could emulate the same sort of idea- without cutting out the meat and carbs and everything- by reducing the amount of "junk" you eat (ie/ candy, sodas, chocolate, chips, sugary things, refined carbs- donuts, cakes, cookies, pastries, etc..) but remember that you shouldnt be elminiating anything completely, especially at your age!
There's no such thing as a vegetable and fruit fast. A fast means NO FOOD. I've been on many fasts the minimum being 7 days. During this time you just take liquids (about 4 quarts a day). A fast is not meant for someone 14 years old. It's meant for older people who wish to eliminate years of poisons and toxin accumulation from there body. I did my first one at a health spa under the supervision of the Health Director for 7 days. I only drank water. Now if you wish to spend one week eating just fruits and vegetables that's fine. Be sure to drink lots water. You'll survive quite well.
